Late last month, Discovery Inc.’s travel manager, Yukari Tortorich, was a guest on a webinar titled, Taking the Guesswork Out of Travel Resumption. During this session, Tortorich, 4d Consulting’s Mike Cox, and FCM’s Peter Psaltakis discussed corporate travel trends and benchmarks, forming a back to travel project team, updating travel policies, and more.

When asked about how Discovery’s travel program had adjusted, Tortorich responded that “Previous to Coronavirus, it was all about cost efficiency, ROI, preferred vendors…and now what’s important is how do I get the message to the travelers at the time that they’re making their travel booking. So when Shep came around, I thought this is it, this is the answer for us.” This means a lot coming from Tortorich as she is a respected and innovative voice in the corporate travel industry and has won both BTN’s 2018 Best Practitioner award and Concur’s 2019 Innovation Award.

She followed up with, “What I love about [Shep] is that from a duty of care perspective; when someone goes to Expedia or to a hotel or airline website, [Shep] will drive that shopping back into Concur if it’s business travel.

The next topic was that of unused tickets, an issue experienced by many companies who have hundreds of thousands of dollars of expiring credits from COVID-related trip cancellations. Tortorich continued her praise of Notify by Shep by noting that the extension is able to pull unused credits from FCM, their travel management company’s, database. She emphasized that “we want to make sure that we use as many of the unused tickets as possible before we start paying out for a brand new ticket so that messaging will be funneled through Shep as well…they’ll get a reminder popup that says, ‘Your company has unused tickets on Delta or American, please book that carrier.’

She finished off by encouraging webinar attendees to explore using Notify by Shep to communicate with employees as they search for travel:

“I’m so excited and thrilled… If [you] haven’t looked at Shep, you really should consider it.”
